General News
· The club committee wishes all members “Happy Computing” in this second term. We hope you enjoy your lessons and learn most of what you need for your personal requirements. If any students have any concerns regarding their lessons please first of all speak with your trainer. If you wish to seek further clarification on an issue, please speak to Tom Robson, who is the training coordinator. The trainers are all your friends and are here to make sure you achieve the computer knowledge you require.
· There will be a change of venue and dates for our upcoming monthly meetings. Please look at the Diary Dates page at the end of the newsletter for the changes. It is very important that all members note these changes. Basically we will be meeting in the GREVILLIA ROOM and on the THIRD WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH
· It was agreed at the committee meeting that the club would produce a course brochure. The aim of this brochure would be to outline the content of each course offered at the club, so that students can decide if the course will cover their needs. All members should keep in mind that the club only offers classes at varying competency levels and each class is for 6 people, therefore the courses are written to cover this and cannot target students individually. It was decided to change the name of the first Basic course to “BASIC COMPUTING” and this course will be broken up into TWO sections over TWO semesters - beginning next semester.
· Internet classes have commenced and the classes have been broken up over THREE lots of FIVE weeks as follows:
· Unit 1:- Basic Introduction
· Unit 2:- Email in Outlook express
· Unit 3:- Chatrooms and Newsgroups.
· The interest in having a Christmas in July celebration has been excellent and therefore it will go ahead as planned. Please note the diary dates as set out at the end of this newsletter.
· Our guest speaker at last months meeting, Mrs Doris Thornley, was a wonderfully inspirational speaker who gave us all lots of useful information and was warmly received by all. This month’s general meeting will be for the Cancer Council fundraising event - Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea. Could everyone bring a plate and a friend so that we can make this morning a great fundraising success.
· Fran Pike won the lucky door prize at the April meeting.
· Once again the club committee would like to strongly urge ALL club members to attend our monthly meetings, as we would like to have a very active social club as well as just a teaching club. It is planned to have speakers at many meetings this year except the predestined occasions and this will make them much more interesting. So please come, one and all and help to improve YOUR club.
· Meg Winks and her family welcomed a new grandson to their expanding family tree. Lachlan William Wear was born at 7.15pm on May 01 2003. He weighed in at 7lb 12oz and was 51cms long and is totally gorgeous of course. I would be most grateful if members would send me snippets such as Anniversaries, Birthdays, New Grandchildren, Hospitalisation, and New Car Winners for this social column.

COMPUTER HUMOUR
Women maintain computers must be male because:
· In order to get their attention, you have to turn them on.
· They have a lot of data but are still clueless.
· They are supposed to help you solve problems but half the time they are the problem.
· Big power surges knock them out for the rest of the night.
· It is always necessary to have a backup.
· As soon as you have committed to one you realise you should have waited a little longer for a better model.
Men maintain computers must be female because:
· No one but their creator understands their internal logic.
· The common language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to the rest of the world.
· Even your smallest mistake is stored in the long-term memory database for future retrieval.
· The message “ An Internal Application Error has occurred ” is about as informative as “ If you don’t know why I am mad at you I am certainly not going to tell you “.
· You continually have to liaise with the supplier even though you would rather not.
· As soon as you make a commitment to one you find yourself spending half your pay-check on accessories on it.
